On June 25, a discussion of Raghuram Rajan’s book The Third Pillar: How Markets and the State Neglect Community took place in the Library of the Gaidar Institute and the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (MSSES). The event was attended by Anna Nizhnik, Associate Professor of the Institute of Philology and History of the Russian State University for the Humanities, Candidate of Philological Sciences, MA in Political Science and International Relations; Kirill Chernovol, Researcher of the Best International Practices Analysis Department at the Gaidar Institute; Ilya Inshakov, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Humanities at the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (MSSES); Artem Zemtsov, Candidate of Political Sciences, Lecturer at the Department of Political Sciences of the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (MSSES).

Gaidar Institute Press has presented its books at trade fairs in Kazakhstan and Iran

In April and May 2025, books published by Gaidar Institute Press were presented at international book fairs in Kazakhstan and Iran. The events were sponsored by the Russian Book Union with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation. In particular, books published by the Gaidar Institute Press could be seen at the international book fair "EURASIAN BOOK FAIR — 2025" in Astana, Kazakhstan (April 23–27) and the Tehran International Book Fair in Iran (May 7–16). Visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with Russian publishers’ new book releases. After the exhibitions, all the books from Russia’s national stands were donated to the Russian Embassies in Iran and Kazakhstan.

A new method of superconductor manufacturing was demonstrated to the staff of the International Best Practices Analysis Department

On June 19, the staff of the International Best Practices Analysis Department at the Gaidar Institute was invited to the A. A. Bochvar VNIINM JSC as part of a technical tour. The experts were introduced to a new method of superconductor manufacturing — the magnetron sputtering method. Such technology in the future will allow faster introduction of electric power devices in Russia and in the world.

The journal “Voprosy Ekonomiki” published an article by Nikita Fokin, researcher of the laboratory of mathematical modeling of economic processes at the Gaidar Institute, “Analysis of hedonic price indices for Moscow’s secondary housing market and the impact of interest rates”, dealing with the analysis of the secondary housing market in Moscow.

The CEBE study: regulation of discounts on marketplaces is necessary to protect sellers

The Center for Evidence-Based Expertise (CEBE) of the Gaidar Institute presented the study “Discounts on Marketplaces. Regulatory Scenarios with Economic Justification”, focused on analyzing the impact of discounts provided by marketplaces on sellers, consumers and platforms. The research is based on the data of own quantitative research on multistage quota-based all-Russian sample, analysis of judicial practice, regulator’s and legislator’s reaction to the application of such practices by marketplaces in the international and Russian arena, on the data of public financial statements of leading Russian marketplaces, as well as on the accumulated data set of the Platform Economics team. The authors’ economic and mathematical model was used to estimate the effects.

The event was attended by more than three hundred participants, including heads of universities and scientific organizations, representatives of authorities and alumni associations, to discuss and develop tools to support the creation and development of endowment funds in the scientific and educational sector.
