Kirill Chernovol, Researcher at the Gaidar Institute's International Best Practices Analysis Department and Olga Ponomareva, Expert at the Economic Policy Foundation, commented for Vzglyad on SCO's initiative to create an alternative financial system independent of the dollar.

Ivan Ermokhin, Researcher at the Gaidar Institute's International Best Practices Analysis Department, commented for Nezavisimaya Gazeta that the discrepancies between official poverty statistics and opinion poll data are largely explained by the peculiarities of the inflation calculation methodology used by Rosstat.

The SCO summit provides Russia with a platform for developing cooperation with countries that are not involved in the sanctions policy, and can also potentially mitigate the effects of secondary sanctions. This was the opinion expressed in a commentary for TASS by Kirill Chernovol, a Researcher of the International Best Practices Analysis Department at the Gaidar Institute and Olga Ponomareva, an expert  of the Foundation of Economic Policy.

Antonina Levashenko, Head of the International Best Practices Analysis Department at the Gaidar Institute, spoke in a commentary for RIA Novosti on potential growth of titanium imports from Russia to China. According to the expert, this may be related to development of the PRC aerospace and chemical industries.

Maria Girich, a Researcher of the International Best Practices Analysis Department at the Gaidar Institute, said in a commentary for RIA Novosti that producing gold from mercury at the nuclear power plants is theoretically possible. However, commercial reactors producing gold from mercury do not yet exist, thus, they can be expected in 10-20 years at best.

Ekaterina Papchenkova, Director of Center for Event-Based Expertise at the Gaidar Institute, commented for the RBC on the labor force shortages in Russia and in the world due to aging of the population. She believes that solution is not only to attract migrants, but also to involve “previously marginalized households’ groups” in the economy.

Evgeniy Goryuov,  Head of the Monetary Policy Department at the Gaidar Institute, stated in a commentary for Izvestia that deflation observed in Russia is seasonal, it is not a long-term trend. The expert emphasized that price growth should be expected again in early autumn.

Lyubov Filin, Head of Event-Based Regulatory Practice Department at the Gaidar Institute, noted in a commentary for Izvestia  that requirements for IT specialists are changing due to introduction of artificial intelligence. In particular, mastering AI tools is becoming a necessity: “Skills in working with AI tools become a basic ‘hygienic’ minimum: the ability to use developer assistants, build simple pipelines using LLM and integrate models via API.”

The US announcement in August 2025 regarding the introduction of tariffs could mean either maintaining the current rates or raising them to 75–100%. This forecast was given to RIA Novosti by Antonina Levashenko, Head of International Best Practices Analysis Department at the Gaidar Institute.

To solve the problem of gasoline shortages and rising prices, it is necessary to boost investment in the modernization of oil refineries and develop infrastructure, in particular by expanding the network of fuel storage facilities in the regions.

Lyubov Filin, Head of Evidence-Based Regulatory Practice Department at the Gaidar Institute, commented for Vedomosti that the rise in hidden unemployment in Russia became noticeable in recent months. She linked this to lower demand in key industries, such as the auto industry, transportation, and trade.

If dialogue between Russia and the U.S. continues after the Alaska summit, certain sanctions — particularly those affecting payments and project implementation — may be lifted in the near term, said Ivan Ermokhin, a research fellow at the Gaidar Institute’s Laboratory for the Analysis of Best International Practices, in a comment to RIA Novosti.

Joint involvement of Russia and the U.S. in Arctic rare earth metals (REM) mining and processing projects holds strong potential and could benefit both sides, said Antonina Levashenko, head of the Laboratory for the Analysis of Best International Practices at the Gaidar Institute, in a comment to Prime.

The possible resumption of direct flights between Russia and the U.S. could have a positive indirect effect on the Russian economy, particularly in logistics and tourism, said Dmitry Evdokimov, a research fellow at the Gaidar Institute’s Laboratory for Quantitative Analysis of Economic Effects, in a comment to Prime.

Antonina Levashenko, head of the Laboratory for the Analysis of Best International Practices at the Gaidar Institute, told RIA Novosti that Russia and the U.S. might reach an agreement at the Alaska summit to lift sanctions on specific oil and gas projects, including the Arctic LNG 2 project.
